Degrees Of Comparison (Tingkat Perbandingan)

The degrees of comparison (tingkat Perbandingan) berjumlah tiga tingkat, yaitu:

The Positive  (tingkkat biasa)

The Comparative (tingkat lebih)

The Superlative (tingkat paling)

with one syllable (1 suku kata)

Note: For one syllable just need to add “er” in comparative and “est” in superlative.

Note:

Adjective  that ended by ”Y”, we just need to change “Y” become “i” and add “er” or “est”.

Adjective that ended by  “ful”, we use More ore most

Some other adjectives of two syllables use more and most (modern, famous, normal, correct,…)

With Three syllables (3 suku kata)

Note:

For the superlative, we should add “THE” before.

With the positive Form of adjective

As…..as (in positive) : sama/se….

Not as…..as (in negative)

Example:

(+)She is as popular as me (dia sama terkenalnya dengan saya/ dia seterkenal saya)

(-)She is not as popular as me (dia tidak sama terkenalnya dengan saya/dia tidak seterkenal saya)

With double comparatives

The comparative……+ the comparative : semakin/lebih……..semakin/lebih…….

Example:

The sooner the better (lebih cepat lebih baik)

The sooner we do, the better we get (semakin cepat kita kerjakan, semakin baik kita peroleh).

 Comparative and comparative (semakin lama semakin……)

Example:

He is taller and taller (dia semakin lama semakin tinggi)

That boy is more and more diligent (laki-laki itu semakin lama semakin rajin)
